Will's response - Early January 2010

think that the theme here is interesting, but I wonder about the form. As this is a publication project, you will need to think about how this will actually be made public. At the moment I’m not sure that this approach is going to really do this. I’d also be careful with the family album / scrapbook thing because these are the kinds of things that seem significant only to those who are directly related to them. But you might be able to do something interesting in terms of memoir / reflection, using photographs and things like that, bound as a publication (or website). Or something more interesting and innovative – but for printed material, you’ll probably need multiple copies. It is worth thinking about this in terms of the wider context of creative stuff that is published to see where it might possibly fit in. I’ll chat about this with the rest of the team, and I’m happy to have a talk through when you are back in; but at the moment it doesn’t feel exactly like a publication project, although the material could easily become part of an interesting publication. So keep thinking about this content (the photos on the site are very evocative) but think about other ways you could use it. A website might actually suit this better than a book.
