First Draft of Synopsis

Millie Vancouvre is a sixteen year old doing her GSCEs. She goes to a small school in the deep countryside of Hertfordshire. She is tall and feels awkward and gangly. She often worries that her arms are too long, and that if they don’t stop growing then one day she will look like an ape. The other girls in the class have nicknamed her “green giant”, often taunting her with the song as she passes in the corridor. The group of bullying girls are all petite and pretty with straightened brown hair with blonde highlights. Millie has fiery red hair that she struggles to control, and says she has a weird angular face. Her best friend is a boy called Sam. Sam is keen on fashion, with an eccentric sense of style.

The Textiles class goes on an annual trip to the Clothes Show, in Birmingham. As the trip approaches all of the girls are picking new outfits in the hope of being spotted by model scouts. Millie doesn’t make any more effort than normal as knows she won’t be pretty enough. However, she is approached almost straight away. In front of all the girls in the class she has her photo taken at the modelling station at the Clothes show. She is called to London to work as a model within a month.

In London, she lives with two other models in accommodation provided by the company. She is working on a campaign that lasts a fortnight, before she will go back to finish her GCSEs. The others girls are very different. Dana is a bitch who chain smokes instead of eating to keep thin, and there are hints of drugs. The other is Hayley, who is sweet but approaching late twenties, so often sleeps with photographers to keep getting work. Both resent the freshness of Millie at first and make it difficult for her. By learning to live with these two girls and stand up for herself, they respect her and Millie learns how to deal with the bullies back home. She becomes friends with them and the campaign proceeds very well for Millie. She gets on well with the photographer who offers her further work. She ignores warnings from Hayley about him. Everything seems perfect.

Before long, Hayley is proven right as the photographer makes advances on her. It is sleazy and uncomfortable, and she learns to be more careful. At a party partway through the campaign, Millie finds Dana in the toilets suffering an overdose. Millie can’t get Hayley to help because she is so drunk she is all over a worker from the agency. The ambulance arrive and take Dana away, Millie is upset and calls Sam who is angry with her as he feels ditched by her for her new celebrity lifestyle. He agrees to come to stay with her. She takes him to the meeting at the agency the next day, where they tell her that Dana will not be working as a model again. They also say the campaign is getting pulled because the shots have not met the client’s standard. They are not unique or fresh enough. As Millie leaves, the agent spots Sam. His style attracts their eye and they ask him to work on Millie’s next shoot as a stylist, as they are desperate for something new and experimental. Sam and Millie work together brilliantly and the campaign is a success.

Epilogue:

Sam becomes a fashion designer and Millie starts a successful modelling agency of her own where all the models are offered nutrition and anti drug support. The pair work in connection with each other and remain best friends.

Feedback:

The scene when she gets her modelling pictures in front the bullies, could be a real satisfying part. Sticking it to 'em! The beginning is a lot more well planned than the ending part.
